The Most Important Things To Consider When Buying A Vacuum

So maybe your old vacuum finally bit the dust (pun intended), or maybe it’s just time for an upgrade overall.  Did you know that the average vacuum lasts about 8 years? It’s important to choose the best vacuum for your needs, especially if you plan on keeping it for awhile.

Did you know that it’s important to vacuum at least once a day? Vacuuming is important because it helps to remove dust, dirt, pet hair, and other debris from floors and carpets. This can help to improve indoor air quality, reduce allergens, and prevent the buildup of bacteria and mold. Vacuuming regularly can also help to extend the life of your flooring and carpets by preventing damage from dirt and debris.

There are so many different types of vacuums how do we possibly know which is best for us? Well, that’s what we are going to discuss here today busy bees! Here are the most important things to consider when buying a new vacuum.

What to keep in mind when buying a vacuum:

The Type of Vacuum:

Nowadays there are so many different types of vacuums, that it can be a tad overwhelming to decide which one is right for us. There are several types of vacuums, including upright, canister, stick, and robotic. There’s plug in and rechargeable as well.  Consider which type of vacuum will work best for your needs.

A robotic vacuum may work well for a flat leveled home, but for those of us who have multiple levels that may not be ideal. A pro of a robotic vacuum is that it can clean your floors without you having to do it. A con is that it may not clean as thoroughly as a regular vacuum and they need to charge often.

Canister vacuums are typically ideal however they are more expensive than upright vacuums and harder to store. The benefit of a canister vacuum is that they are quieter and clean better. They are typically plug in vacuums so that may limit where you can use them in your home.

Upright vacuums  can be easier to store than a canister vacuum. A con is that it may be more difficult to maneuver. Upright vacuums typically are plug ins as well and are louder than canisters.

Stick vacuums are all the rage right now, but they need to be charged often so it may not be ideal for large homes. A pro of a stick vacuum is that it can be lightweight and easy to maneuver. Since it’s rechargeable you are not limited on where you can take it.

Suction power

It’s very important that the vacuum you choose has a good suction power, especially if your carpet tends to get messy often. You need to be confident that your vacuum will be able to reach deep into the fibers of your carpet’s to remove dust, dirt, pet hair, and other debris from floor.
You also need a vacuum that you’re sure can clean multiple surfaces very well.

Read my previous post for the best suction powered vacuum, I highly recommend: What’s Hiding in your carpet?

Filtration

This is a big one, especially if you have allergies, asthma, or other respiratory problems. Look for a vacuum with a HEPA filter. A HEPA filter captures 99% of dust and pollen in your carpets and make sure that they are not released back into the air while you vacuum. There are a lot of vacuums that do not have this filter, so that’s why I also recommend to check out my previous post from up above!

Bag or Bagless?

Decide whether you want a bag or a bagless vacuum. Bagless vacuums are more convenient but can be messier to empty. However bags typically require you to buy more as they are less likely to be reusable.

Accessories

Accessories help make vacuuming multiple types of surfaces in your home easier. Consider the accessories that come with the vacuum, such as a crevice tool or upholstery brush. The accessories you need really just depend on the surfaces you regularly clean.

Conclusively

There are many different types of vacuums. Each have their own pros and cons. You should choose the vacuum that fits your needs. There you have it, these are all really important things to consider when you buy your next vacuum!
