It’s in the way we are made: why we love organization
The impact cleaning has on our mind
More than the structure of our brains and why they like organization, cleaning actually boasts endorphins which are the feel good chemicals in our brain. This is why we often have a mood boost after we clean.
A lot of people actually consider cleaning a form of meditation. Myself included. How is it a form of meditation you ask?
Meditation is a practice where an individual trains their mind to focus on a particular object, thought, or activity to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state. It is often used for relaxation, stress reduction, and improving overall well-being. Cleaning is a perfect way to meditate. It gives your mind a minute to slow down from your hectic day and just be in the moment. It can be very calming.
The impact cleaning has on our body
A study led by associate professor NiCole R. Keith, Ph.D., research scientist and professor at Indiana University, found that people with clean houses are healthier than people with messy houses. Keith and her colleagues tracked the physical health of 998 African Americans between the ages of 49 and 65, a demographic known to be at an increased risk for heart disease. Participants who kept their homes clean were healthier and more active than those who didn’t. In fact, house cleanliness was even more of a predictor for physical health than neighborhood walkability. Link.
Cleaning can burn anywhere between 100-200 calories per hour. Which is also where the endorphins start kicking in. It’s no wonder cleaning can be such a huge mood boaster.
It also keeps away harmful germs that could hinder our body. Cleaning can help to kill a variety of germs and bacteria that can be harmful to our health, such as E. coli, salmonella, and staphylococcus. Stay tuned to learn about different harmful germs and bacteria’s hiding in your home and how to eliminate them.
Conclusion
Keeping our homes healthy will keep our bodies and minds healthy in more ways than one. Cleaning is important because it helps to maintain a healthy mind by having order, which our brains like. It can also help to reduce stress and anxiety by providing a clean space and pumping up those endorphins. Additionally, regular cleaning can help to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria, which can lead to illness.
